In an official media release from Health Sciences Authority (HSA) in 25 February 2018, the HSA will allow the import and sale of Corydalis yanhusuo (延胡索) herb and Chinese Proprietary Medicines (CPM) containing the naturally occurring substance tetrahydropalmatine (THP) in Singapore from 1 June 2018.
Corydalis yanhusuo (延胡索) herb is banned in 1995 following overseas reports that THP, in which could be found in Corydalis yanhusuo (延胡索) herb, could cause liver toxicity when consumed. Corydalis yanhusuo (延胡索) herb is commonly used to relieve pain conditions such as menstrual cramps, gastric pain and headache. In Traditional Chinese Medicine Materia Medica, Corydalis yanhusuo (延胡索) is a herb that improves blood circulation by activating blood and moving qi (活血行气). It is traditionally used in Melia Toosendan Powder (金鈴子散) to treat Stomach pain condition of ColdSyndrome.
HSA will continue to monitor the use of Corydalis yanhusuo (延胡索) herb for any occurrence of adverse reactions and update the public on any developments where necessary.
