Guo Xian Zhang, Class of 2013
31st July 2016
On 31st July 2016, NTU Chinese Medicine Alumni Association (CMAA) celebrated its 5th anniversary at Coffeemin, Clarke Quay Central. The event was graced by Ms. Christine Chua, a member of the NTU Alumni Affairs Office (AAO). Graduates from the Biomedical Sciences (BMS) Class of 2008 to Class of 2015, some of whom brought along their special other half, came together to mark the achievements of CMAA. Adding to the joyous mood was the presence of BMS Class of 2016, who had recently returned from their two years study cum internship in Beijing!
Celebrations began with an address from the incumbent President of CMAA, Ms. Lee Hui Min, who took the helm in 2015. Speaking to a packed audience, Hui Min recapped the mission of CMAA and highlighted the past events organized by the committee. She also took the opportunity to thank the NTU AAO for its unwavering support and reaffirmed the commitment of CMAA to actively engage its members.
CMAA aims to provide a platform to unite all graduates from the BMS course and work with organizations to further the development of Chinese Medicine in Singapore. As the needs and priorities of the alumni change while moving on to the different phases in their life and careers, CMAA has continuously seek to engage them through diverse events. One of the flagship events is the annual BMS Family Day, which involves working with undergraduates from the BMS committee. Through games and other fun-filled activities, BMS Family Day promotes interaction between the graduates and undergraduates across different batches.
The celebrations culminated in the symbolic cake cutting ceremony joined by Ms. Christine Chua. Fun began anew after the ceremony as alumni across different batches mingled with one another. Such interactive events have always provided opportunities for younger alumni to seek career advice and business opportunities through the vast network. As the games brought individuals back to their childhood, interaction with other alumni brought back a flood of memories of the undergraduate days. Many alumni reminisced about the days spent in NTU and the two years in Beijing.
As Mr. Guo Sam Nan, NTU Chief Alumni Officer, noted from his studying of the approach of American universities for alumni relationship, “A happy university experience is the fundamental basis for lifelong alumni relationship.” CMAA strives to forge an enduring friendship between the undergraduates and the alumni which will transcend to a lasting relationship between the alumni and their alma mater.
It has been a long and arduous 5 years journey for BMS Class of 2016. Let us join our hands and wish them the best in their upcoming Singapore TCM Physician Registration Examination (STRE) in October!
